About Lamá Issa

Lamá Issa is a London-based contemporary artist of Syrian and Greek heritage, whose atmospheric paintings explore mythology, emotion and the inner landscape.

Working primarily in oils and acrylics, her practice is characterised by layers of mist, clouds and shifting light. Often suspended somewhere between reality and imagination, her landscapes create spaces for contemplation while exploring themes of memory, longing, loss, identity and transformation.

Greek mythology has become an increasingly important part of her work. Rather than simply illustrating ancient stories, Lamá uses myth and its figures as a symbolic language through which to explore contemporary human experience. Figures emerge, disappear or become absorbed into atmospheric landscapes, allowing each painting to remain open to the viewer's own interpretation.

Lamá's work has been exhibited in London and internationally, and her paintings are held in private collections around the world. Her work has been shown through group exhibitions, independent galleries and artist-led events, alongside regular exhibitions from her studio at Johnson's Island in West London.

Alongside her artistic practice, Lamá is currently training as an Art Psychotherapist, an experience that continues to deepen her interest in symbolism, the unconscious, attachment and the ways in which images can hold experiences that are difficult to express through words.

At the centre of her practice is an interest in the space between the visible and the felt — creating paintings that invite the viewer to pause, look inward and find their own meaning within them.
